Wishful thinking or predicting the future?
According to an article in the Washington Times Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer said today that Republican leader John Boehner will give in to the President’s demands and break with the Tea Party over the partial Government shut down:
A top Senate Democrat said Monday he thinks House Speaker John A. Boehner will eventually concede and put a “clean bill” on the chamber floor to fund federal operations and end the government shutdown.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, made his comments as part of a “friendly challenge” to test the sway of hard-right faction that has been blamed by Democrats for causing the shutdown by demanding a delay or repeal to parts of President Obama’s health care law.
Democrats like Mr. Schumer say enough Republican centrists are willing to vote for a clean bill, especially as the specter of default on America’s debts looms ahead.
“The problem here is Speaker Boehner, so far, has been unwilling to break with the tea party,” Mr. Schumer told CNN’s New Day. “But let me make a prediction: When we get close to [the] debt ceiling, he will have to break with the tea party.”
